Sarah ‘Krebsy’ Adams Looks at Semi-Good Stats

There was more Good News-Bad News regarding the November stats from the Northwest Multiple Listing Service. Again, sales were up over the past four years, once again settling into the 2002 – 2003 volume range. However, single family home prices were down 8 percent area wide, while condo prices slipped more than 17 percent. Short sales and such tend to paint an overly negative picture of home prices, however, dragging down the average, while not telling the whole story. Residential inventory is down 17 percent over last year as well.

Joey Looks at Retail Space

The Storefronts Seattle program is producing some interesting results. Sixteen storefronts are “live” at the moment in Pioneer Square and the International District, with colorful and interesting installations that take empty space and improve it, if only temporarily. You can’t go in most of these stores - - they are eye candy only - - but they are a way of taking the sting off of shuttered and closed storefronts. There are some positive results occurring, as well. Some of these spaces are getting leased out on either a short-term, seasonal basis, or, in some cases, a longer term lease. Good creativity.
