Bill on Marketing
With the apparent collapse of the Seattle P.I., everyone is talking about the demise of the newspapers. The daily newspapers are experiencing hard times, to be sure, as the Puget Sound Business Journal somewhat gleefully pointed out last week, but it’s possible rumors of their demise are greatly exaggerated. Some events still scream for newsprint in one’s hands, and the real estate section still delivers buyers to our communities, especially when there is stronger marketplace demand. Yes, I know the newspapers kept raising their rates, even while their circulation - - and therefore their effectiveness - - dropped. But newspaper advertising is still an important element in our marketing mix, albeit a lesser one. The chart is from Trulia.com.

Koket Knows
Bad news continues to abound. Paul Allen is losing billions, Starbucks is closing stores, Boeing is losing money, Microsoft is laying off 5,000 employees – it’s just day after day after day. However, during all this bad news, there are still some remarkable success stories in the marketplace. Canal Station in Ballard is selling 6- 8 a month. We have heard that Jim Noland’s townhomes in Ballard just moved 8 homes in January. Village Communities in South Snohomish county had 11 offers in January, and most stuck. Jolyn Davis from Burnstead reports a huge Grand Opening at The Bridges at Talus with 250 groups on Saturday and Sunday! See the following photo. Gorgeous product from Steve Burnstead.
