Paul Looks at the Headlines

Below is a chart from the NAHB/Wells Fargo Housing Market Index released last Wednesday, showing confidence increasing for the fourth consecutive month in January, the highest since June 2007. The mainstream media has picked up the story, so let’s take a look at a few headlines:

FoxNews: Growing interest leaves homebuilders less gloomy;
Washington Post: Home Builders’ confidence grows in January;
Bloomberg: Confidence among U.S.Homebuilders Climbs to Highest Since 2007;
LA Times: Home-builder confidence improves in January.

So what does this tell us? It’s certainly better to read positive headlines versus the negative ones we’ve been reading for 24 months. Most importantly, positive news about the housing industry may be the thing to get people who have been sitting on the sidelines for awhile out buying houses..

With a musical performing background, I liken opening my sites to getting ready for a performance. Here's my quick checklist:

  1. Costume Check- How’s my appearance, polished? Wearing a suit?
  2. Playbill -Have I done the things I can control? Does my signage route need tweaking? How’s my Linkedin profile looking these days and my overall online presence?
  3. Warm Up -How’s my attitude? Everyone has a bad day, but the next customer walking through the door will get 100% from me.
  4. Stage Check - Have I done all in my power to make sure my community looks great?
