Bill Predicts the Future

First of all, thank you to the intelligent responses we received from Michael Burke, Grant Jensen, Brad Corner, Der Schneide himself (aka John Snider) and a few others I probably forgot, in regards to the recent urban versus suburbia meanderings. This is a broad topic that is not easily summarized, but more will appear on this subject as time passes. Now, in answer to many requests received, I have spent considerable hours attending seminars, webinars, reading reports, going to builder breakfasts and pondering what the market will be like in 2012. I have an answer to all those who have asked my opinion. How the hell do I know?

La’Cee Looks at Best Markets

Younger buyers, mostly Gen Y, are the most important part of our new buying public these days. Along with younger Gen Xers, they account for the majority of new homes sold. Second biggest is the Baby Boomers, who are now a vital move down and/or retirement target. Look how well Shea Homes has done in our area, for example. Our designs should reflect our target groups. Gen Y = born 1980 – late 1990’s; Gen X = born mid 1960’s – late 1970’s; Baby Boomers – born 1946 – 1964; Depressions (Brokaw’s Greatest Generation) = born 1930 – 1945; Depression = born 1909 – 1929.
